In 2015, the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) established a chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). The GHHS is a signature program of the Arnold Gold Foundation, which seeks to elevate the values of humanism and professionalism within the field of medicine and its constituent institutions. The GHHS DGSOM chapter has hosted a night of storytelling event has been dating back to 2018.

This year’s Night of Storytelling event is a Part III to build upon theme’s from the last two years. In 2020 we had A Night of Storytelling "Stories Of Hope" and 2021 brought "Bending the Arc: Stories at the Center of the Fight for Justice". This year’s theme focuses on the ways we have seen patients, community members, and hospital staff find ways to foster care for themselves, their patients, and their communities within a system and world that oftentimes takes a heavy toll on those working towards justice. We believe in the power of narratives (in all its forms) and invite you to share and listen to the stories that have inspired you this year.

We recognize that stories can be told through a multitude of media. For that reason, we are humbly calling for submissions of stories, poems, spoken word, choreographed dances, and visual arts that speak to moments of resistance, steadfastness in the face of adversity, and personal self-care. We welcome submissions from students, residents, fellows, faculty, nurses, staff, patients, and family members from the wider DGSOM/CDU community!
