Tisha Wang, MD Selected for Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program
The department of medicine is pleased to announce that Tisha Wang, MD, professor of clinical medicine and senior clinical vice chair for the department of medicine, has been selected for a one-year fellowship in the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program. The ELAM Program is a competitive fellowship aimed at increasing the national pool of qualified women candidates for leadership positions in academic medicine. Each year, U.S. and Canadian academic medical centers are invited to nominate two faculty for ELAM’s competitive selection process which results in a cohort of 60 fellows.
Each class undergoes extensive coaching, networking and mentorship with the goal of placing more women in leadership positions who will introduce new perspectives that inform health system decision making, curriculum and policy.
Dr. Wang was recently appointed as senior clinical vice chair of the department of medicine. In this role, she is providing exceptional leadership to refine our departmental clinical operations and strategy. Previously, Dr. Wang served as clinical chief of pulmonary, critical care, sleep medicine, allergy and immunology, and vice chair of inpatient services. In those roles, Dr. Wang exhibited extensive experience managing both inpatient and outpatient medicine operations at UCLA Health. She successfully led the creation and expansion of multiple inpatient and outpatient services in Westwood, Santa Monica, and the community which contributed importantly to growth in both productivity and the breadth of a number of subspecialty clinical programs. Her leadership over the past 14 years has earned her distinctions that include the 2020 UCLA Sherman Melinkoff Award, the 2019 Serge and Yvette Dadone Clinical Teaching Award from the UCLA Dean’s Office, and over 10 nominations for the DoM Faculty Teaching Award.
In addition to her leadership roles in the DoM and UCLA Health, Dr. Wang is chair of the Education Committee for the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and sits on the ATS Board of Directors. She is also on the executive committee for the California Thoracic Society (CTS) and will serve as the future president of CTS. Dr. Wang has national recognition as a clinical expert in rare lung disease and serves as the vice president and clinical director of the Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis (PAP) Foundation, a non-profit patient advocacy organization. In the area of PAP, she conducts multiple clinical trials in collaboration with a team of UCLA translational and basic scientists.
