Join Us for Mental Health and Wellness Day at the Capitol March 12

Mental Health and Wellness Day at the Capitol is Tuesday, March 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Mental Health Association of South Mississippi, NAMI Mississippi, the Association of Mississippi Peer Support Specialists and Families as Allies are sponsors. Mental Health and Wellness Day is an in-person event. We urge you to come to the Capitol, network with others and reach out to your legislators about mental health issues that are important to you and your family.

Legislators are paying a lot of attention this session to the issue of people being held in jail when they need treatment. We are grateful for their attention to this violation of civil rights and dignity – no one should ever end up in jail when they need care. As of now, there haven’t been any public opportunities for people with mental illness and their families to tell legislators what kind of help and approaches they need when in crisis. Mental Health and Wellness Day at the Capitol is an excellent opportunity to share your ideas, real-world experiences and recommendations with legislators.

Registration for Mental Health and Wellness Day is not mandatory, but it is helpful. You can register at this link. We hope to see you at the Mississippi State Capitol on Tuesday, March 12 morning. Don’t forget to wear your green to show we all stand together for everyone’s mental health!
